DIY: DIY when you can: Wiring a lift gate

Lift Gate Wiring: Now, in this freight portion of this industry, or any industry for that matter it is imperative that your equipment is the best operational conditions possible. In this case, our lift gate. The company that swapped our boxes out failed to reconnect our lift gate and wanted to charge us $1700 to trouble shoot and repair the problem. My understanding of a swap is just that. If you take this off from here you swap it with the other. If you take this lift gate from that truck in operating condition, when you swap it, It should as well be operational! Not to mention they estimated it taking a week (or so) to complete. Are you kidding me?! Who can afford to keep their trucks off of the road for a week and not have them out on the interstate doing what they are to do… make money? No one, and we will not start with me. I had an idea. We take the truck back to the yard, watched a couple of video clips, and said hey, I got this. Yes, we did. 2 days and $70 in beer and supplies, Our lift gate was again in operating condition!

The wiring part of the lift gate was pretty simple but gave me the biggest problem. It would only operate in one direction. had to use a multimeter only to find out there was a bad fuse. Most of our time was spent in routing the wire along the existing path. That only required cutting all of the zip ties that were already there and removing the old wires as we followed with the replacement ones.

Once we got our rhythm going the rest was easy as a piece of pie! When we finished, and I am not exaggerating, It looked so much better than it was before. I am going to guess that it has something to do with having pride in what you do and more so when it for YOU!
